It was short notice, but Barbara had an opening and was glad she got to squeeze the Cleveland Rotary club into her Fall itinerary for 2010. Meeting at the Hickory House BBQ in Cleveland OK the group 'ate up' Howell's presentation and loved her stories about some of the celebrities she had met 'on the road'. Howell shared her hallmark message and left each attendee with "It Ain't Over Til It's Over!". After the meeting Howell signed books for the Rotarians. One memeber of the group boasted 89 years of life and has clung to his own, "It Ain't Over til it's Over!" and is still going strong.
Author Barbara Howell was recently interviewed by "Judge a Book By it's Cover" a blog dedicated to getting the inside scoop on book covers that are interesting and unique. Boasting a wood treatment background, Howell's book fit the bill. The blog, ran by book publicist Nikki Leigh, interviews each author about the cover and the though processes and ideas behind it's design. The author's involvement in the cover and how customer reaction is to the book in general.
When Barbara Howell arrived at the Clarmore Reveille's Rotary Club meeting at 6:45 a.m. she certainly didn't expect to be greeted by the OTHER guest speaker for the morning. The dreaded had happened. Inadvertently, the club had scheduled two speakers for the same meeting after a canceled meeting caused a calendar conflict. What could have been a tragedy actually turned into a wonderful program as the other speaker, was Jennifer Holland with the Bit by Bit program in Claremore. Holland's presentation on the program, which works with handicapped children and adults was the perfect partner to Barbara's uplifting and encouraging message of overcoming handicaps herself. The morning was an event to remember as Howell showed the proof of what the kids in the Bit By Bit program could overcome with their own handicaps.
Held in the beautiful Bartlesville Community Center, Barbara Howell was honored to speak at the Bartlesville Kiwani's Club. The event boasted almost 50 guests including distinctive visitors such as the Lt. Governor and incoming Lt. Governor for the Kiwani's District. Howell shared her story of triumph and had the opportunity to visit afterward with several attendees that shared their own stories of victory over life's obstacles.
Making another trip to Sapulpa, OK, Barbara Howell had the privilege of speaking at the Sapulpa Lions Club in August. The group, which focuses on supporting their community, welcomed Barbara to Freddie's Steak House where they hold their weekly meetings. The group was diverse ranging from a young elementary aged girl attending with her father to retired seniors and everything in between. Howell had the opportunity at the end of the event to have her picture taken with the Lion Club member that was the winner of her book giveaway.
The Broken Arrow Lions Club was Barbara Howell's destination on August 16th, 2010. Howell met with the group at their "usual" meeting place The Delta Cafe at 41st and Garnett in Broken Arrow, OK. The club, proud to sponsor several community events, were engaged by Howell's demeanor and southern charm.
Barbara Howell, author of Splinters: The Pain, The Passion, The Point racked up another award by hauling in the 2010 Best Christian True-Story. The competition, held annually is judged by a board of readers and book enthusiasts. The judges give awards based on book merits in categories determined fit for each year. Held as Seigi's, the August meeting of the Tulsa New Comers club boasted author, Barbara Howell as their guest speaker for the day.
Speaking to a group at the Zarrow Campus Jewish Center Barbara Howell shared adventures from the Woodshop and showed samples of her display cases to the men assembled. At the end of the session, Howell gave each one a small display case to remember the day and answered several questions from the group.
Connecting to her earlier career as a Cosmetologist, Barbara Howell had the opportunity to speak to a group of Cosmetology students at the Tennessee Tech campus in Columbia.
Barbara Howell had the opportunity to recount some of her first love: cosmetology, as she had the opportunity to speak to a group of cosmetology students at the Tennessee Technology Center, Hohenwald Campus.
Setting up a sampling of some of her more popular display cases, those for fishing lures, knives and small hand guns, Barbara Howell had plenty of illustration as she shared the story behind her book, "Splinters: The Pain, The Passion, The Point".

Howell brought small display cases and passed them out to all those in attendance, a clear example of the type of woodworking she does.

With baked chicken and grilled vegetables over 35 Sapulpa Rotarians gathered at Freddie's Steakhouse and Banquet Center in Sapulpa Oklahoma.
At their noon meeting, Barbara Howell regaled the Tahlequah Rotary club with her unique perspective on her life's story, from her book, "Splinters: The Pain, The Passion, The Point."
Spreading her story of hope and encouragement, Barbara Howell had the opportunity to speak to a group of English students at the Margaret Hudson program for high school aged girls who were pregnant or already had children.
Barbara Howell was one of 30 authors that attended the Literati Book Festival in Oklahoma City on May 15, 2010. Authors from across the state came out to participate in a exhibition of great writing and prose.
Barbara Howell was honored to speak to the Tulsa Downtown Lions Club in May 2010. 30 local Lions gathered to hear Barbara share a portion of her book. Howell was honored as the guest for the day at the luncheon and was welcomed with open arms by all the members.
On Saturday May 8, Sapulpa Public Library welcomed author and speaker, Barbara Howell to speak to the Sapulpa Friends of the Library Group assembled there.
